/ Spotswood Parishes
The parish of St. Margaret Mary, Spotswood celebrating a theme of mission
and outreach through its weekly liturgies, has entered into the "La
Mesa Compartida" or "The Shared Table" mission project.
The idea of "The Shared Table" was inspired by the Year of the
Eucharist.
The aim of the project is to provide one reasonable meal a day for the
local children and, at the same place, to provide a simple library where
the children can do their homework. Their homes are simply unable to provide
for this, and so the children have little or no chance to improve their
circumstances.
The parish of St Margaret Mary's Spotswood took up a collection for the
work of Fr. Mick McKinnon, the parish priest of Nuestra Senora de la Paz
(Our Lady of Peace) in El Valle, Peru.
Human dignity is all important and it does not come from charity in the
end, but can be nurtured through what can be called "solidarity".
This is an important concept behind "The Shared Table" project.
Fr McKInnon's wish is to develop in people a more profound devotion to
the Eucharist, and give them a means of living out the implications of
what we share and celebrate. His hope is that when people who choose to
support the project sit down to their family meal, they will do so knowing
that they are sharing the essence of that meal with the children of Peru.
