1. PIED PIPERS Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal 2006

On Good Friday over 60 Sacre Coeur students from Years 9-12 gave up their time to volunteer to collect money on behalf of the Pied Pipers. Seven adults from our school community volunteered as supervisors/drivers on Good Friday. Thank you, also, to the numerous families who sent back the donation envelopes with monetary contributions. Here is an excerpt from the email received from Richard Williams of the Pied Pipers on Easter Monday.
“Simply SENSATIONAL!!! The magnificent result that was achieved by the Pied Pipers and all of its very valuable volunteers for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal on Good Friday - $230,936.90 collected on Good Friday alone!!! This compared to last year’s record collection of $197,499.00 - up an unbelievable $33,437.90, just on the day! With the combined efforts of over 1000 (for the first time ever) secondary school student volunteers, plus parent and teacher volunteers from our supporting 17 schools and colleges and all of our other massed adult supervisors
who were all involved in house to house collections on Good Friday, together with adults collecting on some fifteen controlled intersections this sensational result was achieved.
Weren’t we also extremely lucky with the rain holding off until we were very nearly wrapped up? Sure some adult volunteers on intersections got a little wet, but at least it was near the end of collecting. Thank you for Sacre Coeur’s very valuable contribution to the Pied Pipers’ overall result with students collecting a wonderful $10,579.40.
The Good Friday Appeal itself achieved another record of $10,218,000, slightly up on last year. The annual Appeal helps to keep our Royal Children’s Hospital as one of the top three paediatric hospitals in the world.
The Pied Pipers contribution to the Royal Children’s Hospital Annual Good Friday Appeal this year was $264,936.90.
The Pied Pipers sincerely thank and congratulate Sacre Coeur students, parents and teachers for such a marvellous contribution.”
Well done to Monique Topp for her organization of the Sacre Coeur volunteers and to everyone who was involved.

2. The Noel Miller Aged Care Facility Visit:
On Wednesday the 19th of April we visited the Noel Miller Centre- an aged care facility in Kent St. Glen Iris to spend time with some of the residents as part of a voluntary program for Year 10. This is a program which aims to build social awareness that impels to action (Sacre Coeur’s focus goal for 2006). We were able to spend some quality time with the elderly residents. We were both very excited and privileged to be the first students from Sacre Coeur to participate in this program. We chatted with the residents and played bingo with them which they really enjoyed.
This visit was very rewarding and seeing the smiles on their faces made it even better.
We strongly encourage everyone to participate in this worthwhile program if, and when, it is offered to them. We would like to express our thanks to Miss Houston and the Mecwa staff for making the program possible and a big thank you to Ms Pearson for taking the time to accompany us to the centre. One of the residents was a Sacre Coeur alumna. She was 93 years old and was so pleased to see us.

3. Caritas Project Compassion 2006
Our efforts for Project Compassion included a Pancake Day fundraiser and donation boxes located in the Tuckshop, staffroom and Homerooms. This year we were able to send a record of $1784.65.
