Committee for Mission

Letter from Archbishop Hart

Dear Friends,

On Tuesday, 15 th June 2004, the Committee for Mission prepared its Report in answer to my mandating document of October 2002.

I enclose a copy of the covering letter from Bishop Prowse and of the specific recommendations made by the Committee.

After the recommendations have been faxed to the priests the full Report will be placed on the Archdiocesan website and can be downloaded for further reflection by priests, deanery representatives, parish councils and groups.

A huge amount of work has been done by the Committee in seeking to make Evangelisation the top priority of the Archdiocese.

As I reflect upon the Report and its recommendations, I invite you to join me in doing so, as I intend to propose a specific mechanism for addressing the issues it raises.

With many thanks for your cooperation in this important project and prayerful good wishes,

Yours sincerely in Christ,

+Denis J. Hart,
Archbishop of Melbourne

Every Christian, by virtue of Baptism, is called to evangelise. We are witnesses of the Resurrection of Jesus in our world. We rely totally on the Holy Spirit, the “Lord and Giver of Life”, to give us the capacity to fulfil our primary duty of proclaiming Jesus as the Redeemer. “Without the Holy Spirit, evangelisation simply cannot occur.” (EN 75)
