| National RCIA Conference
2008
Catechesis within the RCIA is a constant given within the process
of the catechumenate model. Catechesis expresses who we are and
what we should be doing as the People of God. Catechesis, appropriately,
is the theme for the national RCIA conference to be held in Melbourne
11 -14 September 2008.
The best catechesis or the formation of those seeking Baptism and
full communion with the Church is a constant challenge for the community
of faith. What are the best methods? How do we provide a welcoming
environment? Should we make demands? How can we support the lectionary
model? Are there bench marks? Should there be? How do we know we
are doing a good job? Are there other methods of adult education
we should employ? What is the church asking us to do, according
to the Rite?
In 2007, the Australian Bishops Commission appointed Bishop David
Walker to liaise with the Australian Catechumenate Network (ACN)
on these and other issues and questions. Bishop Walker will give
the keynote address for the conference on Evangelisation and Catechesis.
This Keynote address will be supported by other speakers including:
Ms. Kathryn Boyle – Lectionary Based Catechesis
Fr. Dermid McDermott & Ms. Margaret Ryan – Liturgical Catechesis
Bishop Philip Wilson/ Keynote address – A Vision for Australia
Fr. John Flader – Instructional Catechesis
Fr. Elio Capra – Synthesis of Catechesis
The conference will include an open forum chaired by Mr. Stewart
Bazzica who chairs the Australian Catechumenate Network
The ACN has put together an innovative and encompassing programme
for the national conference that many will find helpful and formative.
If you are presently involved or have been in the past or are contemplating
being involved in this stimulating and cutting edge work of the
Church, do consider participating in the National RCIA Conference
to be held in Melbourne 11 –14 September 2008.
