The Summit
Journal of the Liturgical Commission, Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne

First published in February 1974, The Summit is the quarterley journal of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, published by the Archbishop's Office for Evangelisation. Originally designed to provide commentaries on the reform and renewal of the liturgical rites and translations of the official liturgical books following the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), The Summit continues to offer subscribers commentaries on the seasons, ministries and pastoral celebration of the Church's liturgy.

A major component of the journal is the Parish Liturgy and Catechumenate Resource which is a Lectionary-based guide for groups who prepare Sunday liturgies or those who wish to use the Sunday readings for prayer and reflection. A major section of the Resource is directed towards catechists and parish teams preparing catechumens and candidates for the sacraments of Christian initiation. The Resource includes a convenient take home sheet containing the Sunday Gospel and suggestions for prayer and reflection.

The Summit Editorial Board comprises Rev Gregory Bennet, Mrs Carmel Crawford, Rev Gregory Bourke, Ms Kathryn Boyle, Br Mark O'Connor FMS, Rev Brendan Reed, Dr Margaret Smith SGS and Mr Paul Taylor (editor). Regular contributors to the Liturgy and Catechumenate Resource are Ms Kathryn Boyle (The Catechumenal Journey), Rev Dr David Orr OSB (Images of the Word and Liturgical Notes), Ms Marie O'Keefe (Notes for Liturgy of the Word with Children) and Mr Paul Taylor (Music Notes). The journal reaches over 1600 subscribers around Australia and Oceania, and has been the recipient of several awards from the Australasian Catholic Press Association
